Great selection! This is my first exposure to Dahka/Brakha. My first impression is that they sound so much bigger than a quartet.
“Ой, у Києві“ This is the one that is hitting me. This is like hearing Lankum or Heilung for the first time. Timeless. Immediate. This doesn’t feel like folk music being preserved or recreated. It feels alive. Like something that existed long before us and somehow made its way into the present. Like a note from my ancestors.
