Brian Wilson reportedly felt Mike Love's commercial instincts clashed with his vision — do you hear that tension anywhere on the record?

I didn't find any real tension in the album. If anything, everything was so purposeful and well produced. There are definitely songs that lean towards commercial pop, but when you scratch at the surface there's so much more to them.

There are so many feelings and just so much generally going on in all of these tracks, but tension is definitely not something I noticed.

This is the record where I feel the least tension, because it feels the most Brian and the least Mike. He really got to follow his instincts on this without having to balance philosophies.
