Completely agree. If you haven’t I highly recommend reading their biography, ‘Trouble Boys.’ Has a part that tells the story of how “Unsatisfied” was conceived. Crazy as it sounds a lot of the song was improvised at the time they were recording the album.
@LunaDelRey totally agree. I remember the first time I heard the song; I was a teenager and it just amazed me how Westerberg created this kind of wordplay with it. There was both complexity and simplicity within it all, and mentioned above after reading their biography and reading the conception of the song it further demonstrates their under appreciated brilliance towards song and lyrical construction
While I completely agree with @Herecomesaregular34 and @LunaDelRey with “Unsatisfied” being THE song here, I’m gonna mix it up and go with “Answering Machine” as my alternate. The single guitar playing as Westerberg’s voice heartbreakingly delivers the lament, the idea of missing his love’s voice, being subjected to an answering machine. It’s heartbreaking, it’s tragic, and it’s absolutely mesmerizing
