My God how my musical landscape expanded when DN dropped onto the scene. I had already been firmly immersed in the late 70s - mid 80s heyday of new wave, post-punk, “college rock” scene growing up in NYC area and spending my days listening to pretty much much everything and going to see too many bands in big arenas and small venues all over. Saw many of the great artists of that era play. But as mid-80s evolved into a scene that became dominated by hair metal and its derivatives, it was hard to find something new and creative and challenging. Until Sonic Youth. And then it all changed. The essential bridge from the 80s to the 90s (along with Pixies), this album has a deep place in my brain and soul. And knowing that Teenage Riot is based on the notion of electing J Mascis as President of the United States, how could you go wrong with this album?

💯 feel the same way. After hearing this album it completely changed the way I looked at 90’s rock and really music overall. This was the album for me that helped me understand how preceding artists played an influence on future generations. With DN it was so clear to hear how SY had such an impact on the alternative, indie, punk and college rock scenes.
