I've never really listened to this record front to back, so I'm into the idea of taking it all in. I'd like some context on where this sits in their catalog as a setup from you @jangles the fearless leader of Friday Jamsssssss
I actually don't have a ton of background on this one. Definitely gave it a spin or two back when it first came out, but felt like I rediscovered in a few years ago by accident. I've always been super interested in the idea of it being a fictional band that Damon Albarn created. (Side note - I was never a Blur fan, but I started to listen back on their stuff last year and was pretty blown away. Might be worth a future pick.) This one in particular feels really immersive in it's overarching concept, the storytelling, the themes. The music is pristine and captivating. It kind of just sucks you in and you find yourself in this world of his creation. His first album under the pseudonym was produced by Dan the Automator. This one was done by Danger Mouse. Two guys I really enjoy in the world of hip-hop production. The music itself pulls from a few different genres, but feels really novel somehow. Last thing are the guests. De La Soul, Doom, even Dennis Hopper. Really tasteful curation in the people he's working with on this one. Really interested to see how this one hits.
