Leaning into tradition this week! @harlanworld and I established a ritual over 15 years ago when we first connected over music. Every Friday we're letting loose to some Talking Heads. I think we were first inspired when we discovered the Stop Making Sense show documentary. The music was incredible. The show's pacing was cinematic. David Byrne was captivating. Tina Weymouth could throw down a GROOVE. Minds were blown. For the year or two or more that followed we made sure every Friday started with a little slice of that magic. It's one of my personal life experiences that inspired Sound Club. Hoping others find some magic, too.

@William the Life During Wartime comparisons yesterday got me in the mood. Is Fear of Music your top Talking Heads album?

@Jangles its close, I really love the debut, and this album remain in light is phenomenal, so its between those 3 id probably say Talking Heads 77 is my favorite

I dont need to listen to this for a review as Ive heard it for decades. Ive seen over 2400 concerts in my life, and Talking Heads are one of 5 bands I regret not seeing. Ive seen all them mebers in other project, (Tom Tom Club, Byrne solo). This album is a different beast from the rest of their catalogue. They brought their minimal rock and art to a whole new level. Crosseyed and Painless is the gem of this, and putting together this great band and touring with them was brilliant. I think Eno shows a new side of him with this album. And I am a HUGE fan of Adrian Belew... great choice on this!!

@SeanInConcert yes! My answer to the "what would you do with a time machine?" question is always to go back to 1983 to see Talking Heads on the Stop Making Sense tour. I love the transition from the ominous, paranoia of Remain In Light to the more innocent quirkiness of Speaking In Tongues. Both are so obsessed with rhythmic, dancing beats but in really unique expressions. A seriously amazing stretch of music for a seriously amazing band.

Remain In Light does feel like it was made in the mid-80s... Its hard to believe this was 1980 and Fear of Music was 1979. I keep missing the tour with Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew doing the Remain in Light album in its entirety.

I'm really interested to hear if anyone is listening to this album for the first time. Now nearly 50 years later (I?I?I) does it sound fresh and novel or does it sound nostalgic and derivative?

Pretty stoked to dive back into this one today. If anyone has yet to hear it you should check it out! To call it a treat is a bit of an understatement.
