Influences: Is King Krule Fresh Or Derivative?

For me, King Krule wears his influences on his sleeve. Sometimes that can lead to unexpected evolutions in sound and genres. Other times it can feel like watered down, rehashed tunes. I'm curious where on the spectrum listeners fall.
