First listen to this album ever. Never dove into BS, other than one song, "Who Was in My Room Last Night?" which was on Guitar Hero 2. So far I'd say it's a mixed bag, literally. Writing this in the middle of "My Brother's Wife" and it's making me realize how eclectic/varies the songs are.
This is my first pick that I really don't have much of a clue about. The Butthole Surfers were part of the soundtrack to a film called Freaked from 1993. If you haven't seen it I'm not sure if I can recommend it in good conscience, but I was a massive fan. I couldn't tell you which songs were theirs in the movie. The soundtrack ripped in general and their name always stuck out to me. So here we are. Hopefully flying blind will lead to a great discovery. Or we'll crash and burn into our next pick on Friday. Either way, pressing play!
There are a few songs here that I really got into. Birds and Ulcer Breaker absolutely rip. Pepper has that intoxicating blend of folk/alt rock/hip-hop reminiscent of Beck. The Lord Is A Monkey has a bit of Beck, as well. My Brother's Wife might be the weirdest thing I've heard in recent memory. I appreciate experimentation in music so I sort of dig. The rest of the tracks feel pretty forgettable. The album has absolutely no cohesion or flow. Aside from a penchant for tremolo/rotary speaker on a few tracks I wouldn't even assume all of these songs are from the same artist. Sometimes that makes for an unexpected, exciting album. This just feels aimless and without purpose. A few fun ones to revisit, but definitely my least favorite album so far in Xennial Rewind.
