Percy Jones's bass often feels like the lead voice — does that shift how you hear the other instruments responding to him?

Not really. One thing I struggled with throughout the album is how overtly composed the music is. The complexity of the music didn't seem to allow for a lot of give and take between the instruments. Even in segments clearly designed to give one instrument space to explore, the other instruments were extremely strict with staying to the charts.
