What does the choice to cover Maggot Brain tell us about what Flea is working through on this album?

I'm curious what others find thematically in the album. My interpretation - Flea's trying to draw a comparison between the absurdness of the world today (A Plea) and the what he's sees beneath that. From that perspective, Maggot Brain is both a statement of the former and a super emotional platform for speaking through his trumpet.
