lol...they released their first EP on April Fools Day? Also, you're now back to back on bands playing under pseudonyms. New club theme?
Such an intriguing find. A band playing under a pseudonym writing a retrospective. 🤯 I really didn't understand that context until a four or five songs in. To it's credit, I thoroughly enjoyed those first few tracks. My assumption with such an undertaking is that it would be a caricature of the genre. I heard Queen, The Beatles, The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Beach Boys - so many giants that obviously served as inspiration for the musical costume. What's crazy is that I would have easily believed that this was a contemporary of theirs. It's easy to say this would have been a great album of that era when they have the benefit of those influences. I really did enjoy this front to back, though, and might find myself putting it on the next time I'm craving that era in music.
So, im rating this album lower than I thought. But is was too much homage for me. I was expecting ...i dunno, more modernism in the throwback... I stopped ranking the songs because I would be repetitive. Maybe further down the line, Ill choose an XTC album and give it a chance!
Hah! That makes more sense now. I thought the whole album was rush playing under another name.
