I came into this thinking I would love this, going by what I have heard from other people, their imagery, etc... BUT, just like the band GHOST, a huge disappointment. It definitely had a more modern rock feel for the most part, but adding the rap-style vocals didnt do it any favors. Cant tell if the vocalist has a huge accent, or he had some weird warbly effect on his voice, but it was nails on a chalkboard for me.
I've never heard of this band so I'm coming in as a blank canvas. They definitely have a sound that I can see some of my more casual-listening friends being into. For me, that made this a really sterile listen. It feels like the musical equivalent of paint my numbers - insert piano interlude here, insert trap hi-hats there, paste death metal section here, insert saxophone (?!) here. It's as if there was a sound library that they used to cut and paste tracks together. All of those individual sounds are as they should be, I guess, but why are they being brought together? To me, this sounds like an identity crisis. So many ideas. So many sounds. There's nothing that makes it cohesive, thoughtful, natural. It was just a bunch of stuff thrown together. And the vocals... One of the tougher listens for me.
