ML Buch’s Suntub was one of my favorite records the year it came out, and I keep coming back to it. It’s a beautiful album. Spacious guitars, understated vocals and songs that feel warm and slightly strange around the edges. There’s so much detail in the production that I still hear new things when I put it on. This is one I recommend to friends without hesitation.
Definitely an interesting, unique listen. I’d go so far as to call it challenging. The lack of structure to most of the songs gives it an aimless feel. Given how meticulous the sounds and textures are, it’s probably safe to say that it’s intentional. I can appreciate albums like this as art. It’s conceptual, it forces you to think as much as feel, it challenges norms. The experience of listening is awesome. I don't know if I’ll come back to this one again, though. I didn’t find it to be dynamic enough so I felt easily distracted and lost. I felt that the treasure trove of sounds and effects was missing recurring themes to ground the listener in something familiar. Her voice, which had a really cool timbre, felt like it needed a counterpoint to pull it up from a bit of the sluggish depths. Great share, though. One of the most interesting albums I’ve heard lately!
