How does the dual vocal approach on The Face Of God contribute to the song's emotional impact?

On “The Face of God,” Lisa and Anders aren’t really singing to each other, they’re singing the same moment from two different angles. They use they completely opposite vocal styles again to the songs power. God weeping over a humanity that won’t wake up, and she actually sees it. The growl is the sleep itself, the bit of us that can’t or won’t. So not a duet really, it’s a split. One voice witnesses, the other a refusal. Pretty epic.
