Sound Club Community Guidelines
Sound Club is a place to listen to albums together and talk about them. These guidelines keep it welcoming for everyone, whether this is your first album club or your hundredth. They apply everywhere on Sound Club: discussions, replies, listening rooms, profiles, club pages, sessions, and in person at Sound Club events.
Talk about the music
- Keep conversations about the album, the artist, the club, or listening together. Tangents are fine; derailing isn't.
- Share what you hear and how it makes you feel. There are no wrong takes, only unkind ones.
- Mark spoilers for albums a club hasn't reached yet, and don't post full song lyrics. Quoting a line to make a point is fine.
Disagree kindly
- Disagree with ideas, not people. "I hear it differently" beats "you're wrong."
- No insults, name-calling, or piling on.
- Everyone is welcome here, whatever their taste. Nobody should be made to feel their music is "bad" or that they don't belong.
No harassment, hate, or threats
- Don't harass, bully, or intimidate anyone, in public or in private messages.
- No hate speech or attacks based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or any other part of who someone is.
- No threats or encouragement of violence or self-harm.
No spam or self-promotion
- Don't post ads, repeated messages, or links that aren't part of the conversation.
- Musicians are welcome. Share your own music only where a club's hosts invite it.
- Don't use Sound Club to collect followers, sell things, or send people elsewhere.
Keep it safe for everyone
Sound Club is open to people 13 and older.
- No sexual or sexually suggestive content, and no graphic violence or gore.
- Nothing illegal, and no links to pirated music or files.
- Anything that sexualizes minors is removed immediately, the account is banned, and we report it to the authorities.
Respect people's privacy
- Don't share someone's personal information (address, phone number, email, workplace) or private messages without their permission.
- Don't post photos or recordings of people from in-person sessions without their OK.
Be yourself
- Use one account, and don't pretend to be someone else (another member, an artist, or Sound Club).
- Don't use bots or automated tools to post, react, or join clubs.
At in-person sessions
- Treat the venue, its staff, and other guests with respect, and follow the venue's rules.
- If you RSVP and can't make it, cancel so someone on the waitlist can go.
Hosts
Club hosts set the tone for their club. Hosts can hide posts in their club and help Sound Club review reports. Hosts should apply these guidelines fairly to everyone, including friends.
If you see something
- Use Report on a post, member, club, or session. The person won't know who reported them.
- Use Block to stop seeing someone and stop them seeing you. They aren't told.
- Sound Club reviews every report within 24 hours. Club hosts can also act on reports in their club.
What happens when guidelines are broken
Depending on what happened and whether it's happened before, we may:
- hide or remove the post, session, or club,
- send a warning,
- suspend the account for 7 or 30 days (you can still read, but not post, react, RSVP, or join clubs), or
- close the account permanently.
We have zero tolerance for hate, threats, and sexual content involving minors: these lead straight to a ban.
If you think we got something wrong, reply to the email we sent you, or write to admin@soundclub.app.
