From SeanInConcertOingo Boingo - Only a Lad - 1981 For me this is a word of mouth album that I had never truly explored until this club. Now early on, the most of what I knew about Oingo Boing is their music on soundtracks. Also, they were supposed to be one of the best, most maniacal bands live. Today, they are still in my top 5 bands I never got to see. Leader Danny Elfman we all know now is somewhat a music genius with his soundtrack works. I grew up in a record store pretty much. I was at my local shop all the time starting around 9. Just listening to music and staring at album covers. A few years later I started to work there. This was at the height of college/alternative radio, right before college and alternative became the norm and were transferred into music genres (definitely an argument I love to have). My much older co-workers were playing The Cure, The Smiths, stuff like that, and every once in a while, Oingo Boingo "Only a Lad" would be played. At the time, it was only memorable to me because it sounded like early DEVO, which I was heavily into. So I didnt give it too much thought, but as years went by, Only A Lad always came up in music convos in certain circles, and I never revisited it until now... So... HERE WE ARE!!! Enjoy!
