From SeanInConcertSince we are on a psychedelic trip.... "I was once asked, if I could make a band, what band would it sound like?" Most people who know me thought id say RUSH or Weather Report, Nope, its this band, Ozric Tentacles. I got into them way late..like 1998. In fact, the very first time I heard of them or their music was about 3 hours before I saw them. I friend asked if I was going to Ozric...I was like, whats that!! We went to his car and he popped in a CD, and I was floored within 60 seconds. I immediately grabbed a ticket to the show and they have been a favorite ever since. This album "Lotus Unfolding" is a much later work and the writing is tight, where their earlier stuff feels like psychedelic prog jams... which is great in itself.. Love to hear what you think
- Does the polished, modern production on Lotus Unfolding enhance the cosmic atmosphere or sand off the grit that defined early Ozrics?
- Which track here would you use to convert a friend who thinks instrumental space rock is boring or noodly?
- Burundi Spaceport closes the album on an explicitly world-music note, so does it feel like a satisfying send-off or an odd fit?
- Where and when does this record hit hardest for you, driving at night, headphones in the dark, or something else entirely?
- After nearly forty years of Ozric Tentacles albums, does Lotus Unfolding feel like meaningful evolution or comfortable familiarity?
