From harlanworldI had a hard time finding something to listen to this week. I'm late to the punch. There's no deeper meaning in this album for me, except that it represents a definitive moment in time and sound for rap. I love LA dripping all over it with the Game's vocal texture, but what stands out for me most is the who's who of producers (!) Dre, first and foremost, but Scott Storch, Kanye, Just Blaze, Needlz, Cool & Dre. What a collection of hitmakers that really gave this record so much polish and cracking EQ. When other albums feel flimsy and hollow, this one just keeps hitting song after song. Looking back on it, it's really interesting to see consistency in sound across the whole tracklisting, despite so many different flavors and influences. Like how'd they manage to sound like the east coast and the west coast at the same time? Blurred and blended and purely unique. Crazy. Windows down, looking up at palm trees, for your listening.
