A Go Go

by John Scofield

From JanglesWe’ve officially hit the three-month mark in Xennial Rewind. It’s been fun digging through the crates and revisiting albums from my formative years, but it’s time for some spring cleaning. There’s a reason I spend most of my days listening to music. A reason I’ve seen enough concerts to fill calendar years. A reason I’m building this space for discovering and discussing it. (Aside from the whole unemployment thing.) It’s a reason I’m sure I share with anyone reading this. Great music completes me. I mean that in a literal sense. It doesn’t happen every time I press play, but when something truly great makes its way through my ear holes, the world starts to vibrate at just the right frequencies and there’s harmony. No thought. All feeling. Music greater than the sum of its parts. It’s a state I believe we as listeners, and artists as creators, are always searching for. The pocket. To kick off our new theme, I offer up A Go Go by John Scofield with Medeski, Martin & Wood. A bit of a bridge from Xennial Rewind to The Pocket, it was a favorite of my crew in college -- the kind of record that carried us through the wee hours of the morning. You know music hits when no words are spoken. Just great friends and the pocket.
